Record 2 2008-09-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aquaculture
  • Mollusks, Echinoderms and Prochordates
DEF

A culture technique in which juvenile scallops are released on the sea bottom for a final grow-out phase following intermediate culture.

OBS

The term "bottom seeding" is more precise than the term "bottom culture" and its synonyms in the context of scallop culture, although those synonyms are perfectly correct for this notion. The term "bottom culture" is even more frequent than the term "bottom seeding", but the equivalents "seabed seeding" and "seabed culture" are less frequent. In addition, the term "seabed cultivation" is quite rare and is mainly used in the UK.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Aquaculture
  • Mollusques, échinodermes et procordés
DEF
