Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien created the Prime Minister's Caucus Task Force on Seniors on September 17, 2003. Mr. Chrétien identified four themes for his Task Force: Poverty alleviation, including issues related to income support and housing; Eldercare, including issues related to home care, independent living, and elder abuse; Disabilities, including issues related to access and disability support; and, Work force issues, including questions of retraining, structural changes to the workplace, and volunteer work.

L'ancien Premier ministre Jean Chrétien a créé le groupe de travail libéral du Premier ministre sur les aînés le 17 septembre 2003. M. Chrétien avait cerné quatre thèmes sur les quels il voulait que le groupe de travail se penche : la lutte contre la pauvreté, notamment les enjeux concernant les aides aux revenus et le logement; les soins aux personnes âgées, ce qui englobe les questions liées aux soins à domicile, à l'autonomie et aux mauvais traitements infligés aux personnes âgées; l'invalidité, notamment les enjeux concernant l'accès et les aides en faveur des handicapés; les questions relatives au travail, notamment le recyclage, l'évolution structurelle du milieu professionnel et le travail bénévole.
