Les osmanthus sont des arbres à feuilles ovales ou lancéolées, coriaces, persistantes. Les fleurs, petites, blanches, sont axillaires, terminales. Les Chinois emploient leurs fleurs pour parfumer le thé. En France, Osmanthus aquifolium peut croître en pleine terre; les autres espèces se tiennent en orangerie.
