Marine engineering technologists help engineers design and oversee the installation and repair of marine power plants, propulsion systems, heating and ventilating systems, and other mechanical and electrical equipment in ships, docks, and marine facilities. Personne qui participe à la conception de projets de construction et de réparation de navires en exécutant diverses tâches techniques complexes. Elle effectue notamment différents calculs pour déterminer, entre autres, le poids, le centre de gravité et la structure du navire, toutes choses qu'il est nécessaire de connaître avant de réaliser les dessins détaillés et les plans de fabrication. Elle calcule aussi la quantité de matériaux nécessaires et elle évalue les coûts de réalisation du projet. Elle contribue également aux études, à la planification et à la supervision des tâches, aux inspections de contrôle ainsi qu'aux essais de rendement.
