Le virus de la dengue (Flaviviridae) est un virus enveloppé dont le génome est un ARN monocaténaire de polarité positive. Le virus est transmissible à l'homme par des moustiques hématophages. Les manifestations cliniques de la maladie sont caractérisées par une fièvre non différenciée s'accompagnant parfois d'un syndrome hémorragique pouvant aboutir à un choc hypovolémique souvent mortel.
