In August of 1996, the world's greatest athletes will go to Atlanta. Twice. Next summer, twelve days after the Atlanta Olympic Games, 110 countries will compete in the second largest sporting event in the world : the Atlanta Xth Summer Paralympic Games(August 15-25th, 1996). Canada will be sending a team of 175 athletes : these athletes represent the highest level of competition and achievement for athletes who are blind, athletes who are amputees, athletes with cerebral palsy, athletes who compete in wheelchairs and athletes with a mental handicap.

Au mois d'août 1996, les athlètes du monde entier se donnent rendez-vous à Atlanta. À deux reprises. Seatball is a team sport for disabled and non-disabled athletes, based on regular indoor volleyball, though the players are sitting and the net is much lower.

Seatball was invented after the Second World War [by disabled people, ] for disabled people. At the beginning, only leg amputees, marked by the war, played this kind of sport.

In brief, sitzball is a combination between tennis and volleyball.

Seatball is very similar to sitting volleyball, a paralympic sport … though seatball is played on a larger court and allows for the ball to bounce once between touches. The matches are played for two seventeen minute halves, unlike in volleyball where the games are played for a certain number of points.

Custom ski leg with knee joints-a ski leg with two knee joints was designed for an above-knee skier. One knee joint was for walking, and the other for skiing. When the leg is used for skiing, the upper knee joint is locked and the lower knee joint is used-controlled by a compression spring-as it keeps the leg in the flexed position required for skiing. With the amputee's weight on the coil spring, the ski knee can flex as the amputee goes down the hill but will not collapse and buckle. An adjustable ankle to permit the foot to flex to keep the ski parallel to the hill when going down the slopes was also incorporated.

Martin’s ski leg is an ecto-skeletal unit designed to transmit all the energy from the leg into a conventional ski boot and to take advantage of the boot’s engineering. The design has a hard block ankle and no energy storage so leaning into a turn allows pressure to be exerted on the inside or outside edge of the ski.

Service organization to bring together persons with mutual shoe problems(foot amputees and persons having feet which differ physically due to disease, injury, or accident). The exchange supplies names of persons of similar ages and tastes in shoe styles who have extra shoes or who are seeking someone with whom to exchange mismated footwear. These persons then make their own arrangements for the disposal of shoes they now have and for purchase of future pairs. Also operates an odd glove exchange program.
