There are two ways that a searcher can circumvent this tedious process of using the Grantee indexes to "go back" on a title. Another lawyer can let him borrow his title abstract... The other method is the use of "tie-in clauses". For example, assume that at the end of the legal description in a 1984 deed from G. H. to I. J., the conveyancer who prepared the deed were to add a clause to the following effect : Being the same lands described in a deed from E. F. to G. H. dated Jan. 7, 1972 and recorded at(Halifax) Registry of Deeds office on Jan. 7, 1972 in Book 2529 at page 47. The searcher wouldn’t waste time searching the Grantee index, starting in 1984-he’d immediately open Book 2529 to page 47 and examine the deed to G. H.(Howlett, 1986, p. 5). 1, record 1, English, - tie%2Din%20clause

A title searcher has basically two separate chores to perform-to follow the history of conveyances of the lot(or of the tract or tracts of land from which the lot forms a part), beginning at the present and "going back" through time, tracing a chain of ownership or title until he reaches the original Grant from the Crown or until he thinks he has gone back a sufficient number of years to establish the chain of title as a valid one.(Howlett, 1986, p. 4). 1, record 2, English, - chain%20of%20ownership

The recorded history of matters that affect the title to a specific parcel of real property, such as ownership, encumbrances, and liens, usually beginning with the original recorded source of the title. It shows the successive changes of ownership, each one linked to the next so that a "chain" is formed. (Reilly, 2nd ed., 1982, p. 74). 1, record 3, English, - chain%20of%20title
