1. Make a loop of cord using a double fisherman’s knot-for use on 9 mm ropes ... 2. Wind the loop four times round the rope making sure that the double fisherman’s is kept clear. 3a. For a French Prusik/Autoblock, clip a karabiner into both ends. This version is best when you don’t want the knot to jam at all except when heavily loaded, e.g., when abseiling. It is not a good knot for prusiking as if grabbed it will release and slide. 5, record 1, English, - French%20Prusik

The autoblock knot, also called a French Prusik knot, is an easy-to-tie and versatile friction knot that is used as a safety back-up knot on a rappel rope. 5, record 1, French, - n%26oelig%3Bud%20autobloquant%20Machard

The Klemheist knot (or Machard knot) is a type of friction hitch used as a part of a system to ascend or descend a climbing rope. ... A Prusik loop is wrapped round the climbing rope two or three times. The loop is then threaded through itself and carefully tightened to wrap the climbing rope neatly. In use, strain must only be taken on the hanging loop. Never grip and pull on the knot itself-a rapid descent can occur! If the knot slips when load is placed on the hanging loop, wrap the loop around the climbing rope another time or two as necessary until there is no slippage. 6, record 2, English, - Klemheist%20knot
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The knot is tied with a thin cord, usually 5 mm or 6 mm in diameter, onto the rope. The climber then attaches himself to the knot by clipping the cord onto his harness. Progress up a fixed rope is made by sliding the knot up the rope and then weighting or loading it with the climber's weight. When loaded, the Klemheist knot cinches onto the climbing rope, allowing the climber to progress upward. When the knot is unloaded, it loosens, allowing the climber to slide it up the rope. 7, record 2, English, - Klemheist%20knot

Tree climbing consists of ascending and moving around in the canopy of trees. Tree climbing is safe when done with the proper training and equipment. Use of a rope, helmet, and harness are the minimum requirements to ensure the safety of the climber. Other equipment can also be used depending on the experience and skill of the tree climber. Some tree climbers take special hammocks called "Treeboats" with them into the tree canopies where they can enjoy a picnic or nap, or spend the night. Tree climbing is an "on rope" activity that employs a mixture of techniques and gear derived from rock climbers, cave explorers, loggers and professional arborists. Modern tree climbing techniques are a derivative of these other activities.... The main techniques used are free climbing, self-belayed climbing with a doubled rope system, Single Rope Technique, lead climbing, and spiking up with climbing gaffs. 2, record 5, English, - tree%20climbing

Flaking out of your rope. Before you can use your rope, you must uncoil it.... Climbers refer to this important uncoiling of their ropes as "flaking the rope out". To flake your rope out, hold it(coiled) in one hand and, with the other hand, remove every coil, one by one. Toss each coil on the ground... one on top of the other. You should form a loose pile of rope... This way the rope will easily follow you up the rock, without tangling on itself. 1, record 11, English, - flaking

As the name implies, the carabiner brake rappel is a rappel technique which uses a series of carabiners to produce the friction necessary for braking during a descent. One advantage of using this method is that there is no friction between the rope and the climber's body. The system requires two carabiners, arranged with their gates opposed, to form the platform, or base of the brake. The platform is attached to the harness or diaper sling using a carabiner(s). The braking carabiner(s), positioned across the platform carabiners and beneath the rope loop produce the necessary friction through their contact with the bight of the rope. The amount of friction produced depends on the number of braking carabiners used but, it is very important that the rope never run on the gate of the braking carabiner(s). 3, record 12, English, - carabiner%20brake%20rappel

The running belay is an old technique that is still occasionally used for the time it save. Both climbers tie in and move simultaneously. There is no belayer. The leader places occasional protection and clips the rope through it. In a fall, the rope-running through the protection-will be held at some point by the weight of the other climber, because the rope is tied to both climbers’ harnesses and neither is anchored.... Technical routes are those requiring the hardware of modern climbing and the ability to use it. Technical climbing is distinguished from classical techniques relying mainly on ice axes, threading the rope behind gendarmes, and the motto that in really exposed places, "The leader must not fall".
