Subject field(s)

DEF

Analysis of the usage of concurrent terms designating a given concept. Terminometry can be comparative or diachronic. Example 1: What term (in French) was used to represent a portable cellular phone, in 2003? Example 2: How were concurrent terms used in the past five years?

OBS

The [Language Technologies Research Centre] LTRC’s Barçah research project has created an environment that will make it possible to conduct terminometric studies - or measure terminology implantation - on entire subject fields. The Barçah software produces an accelerated and efficient measurement of terminology use within a subject fields. It sorts the texts according to their language, indexes the corpuses, examines them, presents contexts in a user-friendly environment for manual disambiguation and assists in results management.

OBS

Terminometrics is a new discipline whose first scientific protocol was proposed recently(Quirion, 2000). Research in terminometrics has been carried out in only a few parts of the world up to this point, mainly Quebec, France, and Catalonia.

DEF
