The largest and most important city of the province of British Columbia but not its capital, located on a peninsula in the province's southwest mainland, between Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River, where the latter meets the Strait of Georgia. The first settlement in the region was Fort Langley in 1827 and the first urban community was New Westminster in 1859. Vancouver got its start when the Canadian Pacific Railway(CPR) reached Burrard Inlet from the statutory terminus at Port Moody in 1886. On the 6 of April of that year, the "city of Vancouver" was incorporated by the provincial legislature, a name that William Van Horne, the vice-president of CPR, had suggested in honour of English Captain George Vancouver who sailed in the area and along the west coast in 1792 with the Spaniards Galiano and Valdés. By the turn of the century, Vancouver had displaced Victoria, the provincial capital, as the leading commercial centre on Canada's West Coast. In 1929, the city expanded with the annexation of the municipalities of Point Grey and South Vancouver. Another century later, in 1967, the Greater Vancouver Regional District(GVRD) was already comprising Vancouver and 19 suburban municipalities, the urban centre having never ceased to grow.

La plus grande et plus importante ville de la province de la Colombie-Britannique, mais qui n'en est pas la capitale, située sur une presqu'île au sud-ouest de la partie continentale de la province, entre l'inlet Burrard et l'embouchure du fleuve Fraser, là où ce dernier se jette dans le détroit de Georgia. On l'appelle communément «la ville de Vancouver», bien qu'elle ait le statut de cité en raison de son caractère politique et historique et de l'importance de sa population. Le premier peuplement de la région s'est fait au fort Langley en 1827 et le premier centre urbain a été New Westminster en 1859. La croissance de Vancouver commence lorsque la compagnie de chemin de fer Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) atteint Burrard Inlet depuis son terminus initial à Port Moody en 1886. Le 6 avril de cette même année, la «cité de Vancouver» est incorporée par la législature provinciale, un nom que William Van Horne, vice-président de CPR a suggéré pour honorer le capitaine anglais George Vancouver qui a navigué dans la région et le long de la côte ouest en 1792 avec les Espagnols Galiano et Valdés. Au tournant du siècle, Vancouver a remplacé Victoria, la capitale de la province, comme centre commercial de la Côte Ouest canadienne. En 1929, elle annexe les municipalités de Point Grey et de South Vancouver. Un autre siècle plus tard, le district régional du Grand Vancouver, officiellement le «Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD)» mais parfois désigné «le Vancouver métropolitain» ou «la région métropolitaine de Vancouver», comprend, dès 1967, Vancouver et 19 municipalités de banlieue (dont les municipalités de Burnaby, Coquitlam, Delta; la ville et le district de North Vancouver; les villes de Richmond et de Surrey), le centre urbain n'ayant jamais cessé de croître.

Au Canada (sauf sept exceptions au 31 décembre 2004), le nom d'un lieu habité a la même forme en français et en anglais, celle consignée au Répertoire de la province ou du territoire conformément à l'inscription sur l'Acte d'incorporation de l'entité. Cette règle s'applique également pour la désignation historique d'un lieu habité même si cette désignation ne figure pas ou plus au Répertoire.

Un nom de cité ou de ville est féminin, même lorsque le pseudo-générique «cité» ou «ville» ne le précède pas : «Sur les photos, Vancouver est caractérisée par les voiles blanches de la Place Canada qui sert de port pour les navires de croisière.».

La «cité de Vancouver» ou «ville de Vancouver» est la ville géographique : «La ville de Vancouver, sur la terre ferme, est magnifique vue du haut des airs; elle fait face à l'île de Vancouver.». Par contre, «Cité de Vancouver» ou «Ville de Vancouver» signifie l'administration municipale ou la personne morale : «La Cité de Vancouver a été l'hôte, en 1986, de l'Exposition mondiale de Vancouver sur les transports et les communications - Expo 86.».

Le citoyen ou habitant de Vancouver est un «Vancouvérois», une «Vancouvéroise» (forme à privilégier), que l'on retrouve aussi sous la forme «Vancouverois», «Vancouveroise». Le nom de la ville s'écrit toujours SANS accent alors que le gentilé, francisé par l'ajout d'un suffixe, s'écrit avec accent; d'où le fait que s'explique mal la forme sans accent, bien qu'elle soit populaire et acceptée.

The Lyon Métro is not very deep. Some stations especially on line A and line D (eastern branch) are right below street level with separate entrances for each side platform. A strange construction is Charpennes transfer station where you can change trains from line B to line A towards Perrache without climbing any stairs as the line B platform was built to allow trains theoretically to continue on the line A tracks.

The transfer station for the Lines 1 and 2 will be ISBT(Inter-State Bus Terminus) station, which is also the main terminus for inter-state and intra-city buses.

Users of public transport can choose between two Metro stations, Kropotkinskaya and Park Kultury. Park Kultury is a transfer station, which serves both the Ring and the Kirovskaya-Frunzenskya Metro lines.

We isolated full-length cDNAs encoding the 43-kD form of human upstream stimulatory factor(USF), a cellular factor required for efficient transcription of the adenovirus major late(AdML) promoter in vitro. Sequence analysis showed USF to be a member of the c-myc-related family of DNA-binding proteins. Using proteins translated in vitro, we identified a DNA-binding domain near the carboxyl terminus, which includes both a helix-loop-helix motif and a leucine repeat.
