Histoire : Le Texas fut annexé par les États-Unis en 1845, et les Américains attaquèrent le Mexique, obtenant après leur victoire tous les territoires au nord du Rio Grande (traité de Guadalupe Hidalgo, 1848). Esclavagiste, le Texas fit partie de la confédération sudiste et, après la difficile période de la «reconstruction», fut réintégré dans l'Union en 1870.
