Didanosine (ddI, Dideoxyinosine, Videx) is an antiretroviral (a nucleoside analog that inhibits replication of HIV), FDA approved 10/09/91 for treatment of adult and pediatric patients with advanced HIV who are intolerant to or deteriorating on AZT. (From sources a and b).

Au cours de l'infection à VIH, plusieurs traitements peuvent être mis en place selon le stade de l'infection. Les traitements antiviraux s'attaquent directement au VIH, en bloquant la transcriptase inverse après l'entrée du virus dans la cellule. Les principaux sont l'AZT, le ddl, le ddC. Ce sont des analogues des nucléotides entrant dans la constitution de la séquence d'ADN et qui en bloquent la synthèse. On les emploie seuls ou en association lorsque le taux de lymphocytes CD4 a commencé à diminuer.
