La lipodystrophie se décrit le mieux comme une redistribution de la graisse corporelle. L'accumulation des graisses s'observe le plus souvent sur l'abdomen, la nuque (bosse de bison) et les seins. Elle s'accompagne souvent de fontes musculaires au niveau des membres et du visage. Des anomalies du profil biochimique, telles qu'une élévation du taux de glucose et le diabète, ont également été observées. Enfin, une augmentation des triglycérides et du cholestérol ont été signalés.
