The joint IAEA/WMO Atmospheric Transport Model Evaluation Study (ATMES) was intiated in November 1986. The objective of ATMES was to compare the evaluation of the radioactive cloud and with the evaluation predicted by mathematical models for atmospheric dispersion, using as input only the estimated source term and the meteorological data for the days following the Chernobyl accident.
