The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which included the Caribbean Common Market, was established by the Treaty of Chaguaramas in 1973. CARICOM replaced the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA), which ceased to exist on May 1,1974. Under the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, 2001, the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) was established.

La Communauté des Caraïbes (CARICOM) a été établie par le Traité de Chaguaramas le 4 juillet 1973. CARICOM, qui comprenait le Marché commun des Caraïbes, remplaçait l'Association de libre-échange des Caraïbes (CARIFTA). En 2001, le Traité a été révisé : la Communauté des Caraïbes (CARICOM) est créée en tant que successeur de la Communauté des Caraïbes et du Marché commun des Caraïbes, et comprend le Marché Unique de la CARICOM (CSME).
