These Literacy Awards were established by Canada Post in 1993 as a means to celebrate the achievements of both adult learners and those who have helped them learn to read and write. By publicly acknowledging these efforts, the Literacy Awards continue today to inspire thousands of Canadians to improve their reading and writing skills and to reach their personal literacy goals.

Les Prix de l'alphabétisation ont été créés par Postes Canada en 1993, afin de rendre hommage aux réalisations des apprenants adultes et de ceux qui les ont aidés à apprendre à lire et à écrire.
