Temperature swings are caused by 3 contributing factors: 1. The rate at which your home loses heat (heat loss BTU's/hr); 2. The rate at which your heating system heats your home (heat gain BTU's/hr); 3. The length of the heating cycle setting within the thermostat (differential). As it suggests, the differential setting within your thermostat is the difference between cut-in and cut-out temperatures. 1, record 2, English, - cut%2Dout%20temperature

In most warm-air systems, the thermostat controls a fuel burner or central heating coil... The furnace fan is controlled by a different thermostat located in the warm-air discharge duct from the furnace. The fan is turned on automatically when the air temperature in this duct, or bonnet, reaches a certain level, and it continues to operate until the temperature in the bonnet reaches a somewhat lower "off" setting. Ideally the "cut-in" temperature should be about 43°C and the "cut-out" temperature about 29°C. 1, record 3, English, - cut%2Dout%20temperature
