ne pas faire long feu : Ne pas durer longtemps. [Par exemple :] Leur association n'a pas fait long feu. Je n'y ferai pas long feu : je n'y resterai pas. Remarque : Cette locution peut être considérée soit comme dérivée de la précédente par confusion sur le sens de feu, la métaphore portant alors sur la brièveté de la flamme, soit comme issue d'une autre métaphore, portant sur un foyer allumé pour peu de temps.
