Il existe plusieurs types de stimulateurs cardiaques tels que le stimulateur cardiaque asynchrone qui délivre de manière permanente des impulsions à un rythme fixe sans tenir compte d'une possible activité cardiaque naturelle et le stimulateur cardiaque synchrone qui stimule le cœur uniquement lorsque celui-ci ne produit pas naturellement les signaux nécessaires à la contraction. Pour cela, le stimulateur détecte et analyse les signaux cardiaques.
