CONT

The St. Lawrence River naturally transports large amounts of solids; every day, for example, an average 17 000 metric tonnes of solid particles flow past the city of Quebec. These solid particles end their journey by settling at the bottom of the vast deep expanses of the marine estuary and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, though some stop for short or more extended periods on strands and coastal marshes, from which they disappear slowly with ice action, shore drift, tides or storms.

CONT
