(...) on distingue deux grandes stratégies structurales relatives à l'enveloppe verticale : le mur porteur (bearing wall) et le mur rideau (curtain wall). Dans le premier cas, la totalité du mur assure la transmission des efforts (load transmission) d'un étage à l'autre alors que dans le second cas, seule l'ossature (frame or structure) transmet les charges par l'intermédiaire des éléments horizontaux (...) et des éléments verticaux (...), l'enveloppe ne jouant le rôle que d'une "peau".
