En français comme en anglais, le terme signifie tant le fait de rappeler au souvenir que la cérémonie elle-même. Selon le cas, on pourrait parfois remplacer «commémoration» par «fête», «anniversaire», «centenaire», des termes au sens plus précis mais qui ne sont pas toujours synonymes de «commémoration» ou remplaçables l'un par l'autre. 2, record 1, French, - comm%C3%A9moration

Même si certaines sources donnent les deux termes synonymes, ne pas confondre avec «commémoraison», terme de liturgie : mémoire que l'on peut faire d'un saint dont la fête arrive pendant le carême ou du 17 au 23 décembre. Il y a «commémoration» : a) au canon de la messe, lorsque le prêtre fait mention des vivants et des morts; b) le 2 novembre, au lendemain de la fête de tous les saints, fête des morts appelée «commémoration de tous les défunts», rappel à la mémoire des personnes que l'on connaît et qui sont décédées; c) le 11 novembre, jour du Souvenir, rappel collectif de la bravoure des compatriotes morts au champ d'honneur, surtout pendant la Première et la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. 2, record 1, French, - comm%C3%A9moration
