Sometimes noise exposures from two or more noise sources combine in such a way as to produce a net noise exposure that is greater than that produced by either source individually. Many times, however, the additive effect of two transportation noise sources can be ignored.

Si la source de bruit est plus régulière (air climatisé, thermopompe, ou autres appareils susceptibles d'être bruyants pour le voisinage), il s'avère utile d'examiner avec les voisins concernés la localisation et l'utilisation qui semblent les meilleures. Cette simple démarche pourra vous éviter bien des plaintes et des désagréments. Certaines municipalités appliquent maintenant des réglements prévoyant des niveaux maxima de bruit à ne pas dépasser, ou des distances minimales, pour de tels appareils).

Ne pas confondre avec «source sonore», terme qui n'a rien de péjoratif, alors qu'on parle de «source de bruit» en contexte de pollution.

Los elementos constructivos horizontales y verticales de separación entre cualquier instalación o actividad que pueda considerarse como un «foco de ruido» y todo otro recinto contiguo deberán, mediante tratamiento de insonorización apropiado, garantizar un aislamiento acústico mínimo de 45 dB durante el horario de funcionamiento de los focos de 60 dB si se ha de funcionar entre las 22,00 y las 8,00 horas, aunque sea de forma limitada. [...] El conjunto de elementos constructivos de los locales en los que estén situados los focos de ruido no contiguos a otras edificaciones, como son fachadas y muros de patios de luces, deberán asegurar una media de aislamiento mínimo al ruido aéreo de 33 dB durante el horario de funcionamiento de dicho foco de ruido.
