[Les pélites] ressemblent beaucoup aux argiles, mais ne se délitent pas sous l'action de l'humidité. Elles contiennent du quartz détritique très fin (de [moins de] 0,02 mm) en proportion importante. Elles appartiennent en général à la classe granulométrique des siltites.
