OBS

The term should be restricted to steels that are capable of being hardened by cooling in air in fairly large sections, about 2 in. or more in diameter.

CONT

La trempe martensitique peut se faire par refroidissement à l'eau en partant d'une température généralement moins élevée (aciers trempants ordinaires), ou souvent à l'huile, ce qui diminue les accidents de trempe; mieux encore, si les éléments alliés sont en proportion suffisante, la trempe s'effectue par refroidissement à l'air (aciers autotrempants).
