En saut d'obstacle, le point d'appel est le nom donné à l'emplacement à partir duquel le cheval quitte le sol pour franchir un obstacle. Le point d'appel se trouve devant chaque obstacle à une distance déterminée par la hauteur de l'obstacle et son profil

Le cheval en équilibre est en totale liberté musculaire et se dirige sur deux doigts... Par contre, l'emplacement de la battue d'appel est primordial, ni trop près (brusque lever des épaules pour se dégager de l'obstacle) ni trop loin (baisser du garrot avant d'attaquer le saut).
