Ces termes ne sont pas nécessairement synonymes bien que les dictionnaires les disent tels. La taxidermie, c'est l'art de monter les animaux, surtout les vertébrés. L'empaillage en constitue le moyen : par rembourrage, on leur conserve une forme naturelle. Et la naturalisation leur donne l'aspect d'animaux vivants, souvent en les restituant dans un environnement reproduisant leur habitat naturel.
