Care given to those patients whose classification may progress to emergent if treatment is delayed. Treatment should commence within one hour of arrival in the department and should not be delayed beyond 24 hours.

Asimismo, el artículo 5º aclara que la determinación de la condición de emergencia médica será realizada por el profesional médico encargado de la atención, bajo su responsabilidad. Para ello, todo personal que brinda atención de emergencia en un establecimiento de salud, debe tener capacitación suficiente para el manejo de este tipo de pacientes, tal como lo complementa el artículo 6º.
