Existen varias técnicas para tomar muestras de la voz y convertirla en código digital para su almacenaje y captura (por ejemplo, modulación de código de pulsos). Sin embargo, el reconocimiento de la voz se refiere a los sistemas que analizan el contenido hablado de la voz humana y lo convierten en caracteres. La voz hablada (convertida en código digital) se verifica contra un diccionario de registros de voz, bien de la persona que habla o de una voz genérica.

Reconocimiento de voz: Se pronuncia un código de acceso prefijado (nombre y/o apellidos, DNI, número de teléfono, PIN, etc.), o una frase por invitación del sistema, que lo reconoce a partir de las características de la voz grabada previamente.
