A red macule or papule caused by the bite of a tick that expands to form a large, annular lesion (as big as 50 cm), usually with a bright red outer border, partial central clearing, and an indurated center. Although the lesion can be located any place, the thigh, groin, and axilla are particularly common sites; the unique marker for Lyme disease.
