Laser anemometry is a technique for the measurement of velocity determined from the modulation of light scattered from particles, produced by their motion through an illuminated measurement volume. It is chiefly applied in hydrodynamics where fluid velocity is inferred from that of particles convected by the flow.

La vitesse de référence est mesurée par anémométrie laser. Cette technique optique permet de mesurer localement la vitesse du fluide grâce à de fines particules utilisées comme traceur de l'écoulement. Le principe consiste à interférer deux faisceaux laser à la position de mesure souhaitée, ce qui crée un volume de contrôle. Les particules traversant ce volume de contrôle diffusent un signal lumineux. La fréquence de ce signal permet de connaître la vitesse locale du fluide.
