The largest city of the province of Saskatchewan but not its capital, situated on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River, at mid-point between Regina and Prince Albert. Proof exists of the presence of hunting tribes 6000 years ago, but the development started with the occupation by Cree and Métis, and later by Dakota (Sioux) from the United States in 1881. The construction of a railway from Regina to Prince Albert in 1890 caused the growth of a commercial centre on the west bank of the river; the new community took the name "Saskatoon" while the original settlement became "Nutana." A third, "Riverdale," now "Riversdale," developed south of the railway yards. All three were incorporated as villages between 1901 and 1905, and combined to form the incorporated city of Saskatoon in 1906.  2, record 1, English, - Saskatoon

On a la preuve que des tribus y chassaient il y a plus de 6 000 ans, mais le développement de la région ne survient qu'avec l'installation de Cris et de Métis, auxquels se sont ajoutés des Dakotas (ou Sioux) venus des États-Unis en 1881. La construction d'un lien ferroviaire entre Regina et Prince Albert donne naissance à un centre commercial sur la rive ouest de la rivière; cette nouvelle localité prend le nom de «Saskatoon» alors que la colonie originale devient «Nutana». Un troisième peuplement, «Riverdale», maintenant «Riversdale», se développe au sud du dépôt ferroviaire.
