On peut citer trois dispositifs qui peuvent être [...] couplés à des scintillateurs : la photodiode standard, la photodiode à avalanche et la photodiode hybride (HPD) [...] La photodiode hybride est une photodiode surmontée d'une photocathode dont le diamètre peut atteindre 40 mm. Les photons sont convertis en électrons au niveau de la photocathode; ces derniers sont fortement accélérés sous l'effet d'une différence de potentiel de 15 kV puis absorbés dans la photodiode en produisant des paires électrons-trous.
