Salmonella are increasingly isolated from food animals/products. These zoonotic bacteria or foodborne pathogens are frequently resistant to multiple antimicrobials, as exemplified by isolates with plasmid-encoded CMY or CTX-M beta-lactamases as well as qnrplasmid-mediated fluoroquinolone resistance.
