In 1911, the first postal clerks association was formed, the Dominion Postal Clerks Association. This organization merged with the Mail Porters (present Main Handler classification) Association in 1928 as the Canadian Postal Employees Association, and in 1965, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
