The Photo Plot Program uses 2414 permanent locations throughout the province. Each plot is centred on a coordinate that has been determined from a national 20 km X 20 km grid network. Each grid intersection, or node, is the centre point for a plot that encompasses an area 2 km X 2 km in size. In total, all of the provincial photo plots equal about 1% of the land area of British Columbia.

Les objectifs à court terme ont trait aux placettes photos de l'IFN [Inventaire Forestier National], un réseau de parcelles à l'échelle du pays, à travers lesquelles les attributs des forêts seront quantifiés au moyen de photos aériennes et de données terrains.

Cette combinaison lidar [identification, détection et télémétrie par laser] et de la photogrammétrie est aussi conçue pour permettre le suivi de placettes photos de l'IFN dans le futur en utilisant seulement les photos aériennes ou des photos satellitaires à haute résolution comme IKONOS.
