The Tall Ships’ Races, formerly known as the "Cutter Sark Tall Ships’ Races, "are long-distance races for sailing ships. The races were originally sponsored by Berry Brothers and Rudd-marketers of Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky(the Cutty Sark being their trademark as well as a preserved tea clipper lying at Greenwich in London). The races are held annually in European waters and consist of two racing legs of several hundred nautical miles, and a "cruise in company" between the legs. The Cutty Sark was in 1869 one of the last sailing clippers to be built, and she is the only classic clipper still surviving. She is now preserved in dry dock at Greenwich in London. Cutty Sark has inspired the name of a brand of whisky. An image of the ship appears on the label, and the maker has sponsored the Cutty Sark Tall Ships’ Race.

White Pass and Yukon Railway, at 175 km long, was the steepest pitched railway in Canada. Work began in 1898, at the height of the Klondike Gold Rush, to provide transportation from Skagway, Alaska, to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. Building of the narrow gauge railway was an extremely difficult engineering feat, requiring extensive blasting, tunnels and precarious bridging. Thirty-five of the 35 000 men who worked on construction were killed. The summit of White Pass was reached in February 1899 and the "last spike" was driven at Carcross on 29 July 1900. The gold was exhausted by the time work was complete, though the line struggled along carrying passengers and freight. The mining boom in the Yukon revived the railway, as lead-zinc was hauled from Faro, Mayo and Clinton Creek. The shutdown of the WP&Y in 1982, as a result of the collapse of the mining boom, deprived Whitehorse of some employment and its sea rail link.

The Automated Transfer Vehicle(ATV) is a European cargo supply vehicle to be used for the International Space Station(ISS). It will be launched by an Ariane-5 Rocket from Kourou in French Guiana. The first ATV is scheduled to be launched to the ISS in 2003. The European Space Agency(ESA) is to launch 9 Ariane-5's between 2003 and 2014 carrying ATV's. It is equipped with four television cameras, two mounted on the booms and one near each tip. These cameras feed images to the astronauts operating the arm from the Robotic Workstation inside the Station. An advanced version of the Canadian Space Vision System improves the ability of Canadarm2 operators to keep track of the position, orientation and movement of payloads being grappled.

Le Canadarm2 se déplacera normalement le long de la Station spatiale sur sa base mobile, mais il sera également capable de «marcher» d'un endroit à un autre, un peu à la façon d'une chenille arpenteuse, en saisissant l'une après l'autre des bornes électromécaniques installées sur la structure extérieure de la Station. Le Canadarm2 comporte des unités remplaçables en orbite (ORU), des composantes pouvant être enlevées et remplacées par un astronaute ou par le Manipulateur agile spécialisé. Le bras robotique est équipé de quatre caméras de télévision, deux montées sur les segments et une autre à chacune des extrémités. Ces caméras captent des images à l'intention des astronautes qui commandent le bras depuis le poste de travail robotique à l'intérieur de la Station. Une version récente du Système canadien de vision spatiale améliore la capacité des opérateurs du Canadarm2 de suivre la position, l'orientation et les mouvements des charges utiles qu'ils auront saisies.

Launched by the Proton rocket, the UDM would provide life-support capabilities for as many as six crewmembers onboard the Russian segment of the ISS.
