The munter-mule is one of the most useful combination that one can employ in any rock rescue scenario. It provides the basis for load transfers and for a number of other rescue techniques.

Double-rope technique.... The leader clips one rope into one series of protection placements and the other rope into another protection series, the goal being to keep each rope in as straight a line as possible so rope drag is at minimum.

The ceinture fléchée, or arrowhead sash, was one of the famous badges of the voyageur. The ceinture fléchée had many uses. It was used for warmth, as a tump line and a support on the portage, as an emergency rope, and as a mark of distinction and origin. When tightly woven and treated with beeswax, it could even be used as a cup. Originally, ceintures fléchées were woven by hand using a technique called "finger weaving". Later, sashes, were machine loomed in England for the Canadian mass market. The term "fléchée" refers specifically to the original arrowhead design, but there were many other patterns. The chevron, the "flammes"(flames), the "éclairs"(ligtening bolts), the "W"(double chevron), and the "tête de flèche"(large two-tone arrowhead) were also used. Colors and patterns were distinctive of various regions. Probably the most famous of all sashes were those from the Assomption area of Lower Canada, which had multiple multi-colored lightning-bolts(éclairs) flanking a central red core.

A windlass consisting of a vertical and horizontal spar with a bight of the rope taken around the horizontal spar, which is used to move heavy loads over short distances.

In making a Spanish windlass, fasten a rope between the load you are to move and an anchorage some distance away. Place a short spar vertically beside this rope, about halfway between the anchorage and the load. This spar may be a pipe or a pole, but in either case it should have as large a diameter as possible. Make a loop in the rope and wrap it partly around the spar. Insert the end of a horizontal rod through this loop. The horizontal rod should be a stout pipe or bar long enough to provide leverage. It is used as a lever to turn the vertical spar. As the vertical spar turns, the rope is wound around it, which shortens the line and pulls on the load. Make sure that the rope leaving the vertical spar is close to the same level on both sides to prevent the spar from tipping over.

A thin opaque line in the femoral neck that on the anteroposterior view extends laterally from the inferior border of the neck for a variable distance, frequently reaching the superior border. The line is usually curved, sagging at its center; occasionally, it is almost straight. The sagging rope sign is most commonly seen as a residual after severe Perthes disease.
