The ABC transporters have two membrane-spanning [domains] (MSD) and [two] dimeric ATP [adenosine triphosphate]-nucleotide-binding domains (NBD). The MSDs may show greater variations, depending on whether they operate as a pump or a conductance channel. The NBD subunits play the role of the engines of the transport and interact through their arm 1 with the two MSDs. 4, fiche 1, Anglais, - ATP%2Dbinding%20cassette%20transporter

In broad outline the plus-and-minus method calls for synthesizing pieces of DNA that are complementary to various regions of the DNA being sequenced. Because of the way the synthesis is manipulated each piece ends either with or just before a particular, identifiable nucleotide (A, G, T or C). By performing the synthesis to produce a large number of pieces, each one ending with a successive nucleotide in the sequence, it is possible to establish the sequence of the entire DNA molecule. 1, fiche 2, Anglais, - plus%2Dand%2Dminus%20method

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT

Neuroscientists need more efficient and less intrusive ways to observe brain circuits, in which electrical signals pass from one neuron to the next. ... A radically new approach—a molecular ticker tape—would, in one scenario, place a single strand of DNA with a known sequence of letters, or nucleotides, inside a cell but near its surface. An enzyme, DNA polymerase, would then add new nucleotides that bind to form a double-stranded molecule ... When a neuron fires, an influx of calcium ions coming through a newly opened membrane channel would cause the enzyme to add the wrong nucleotides ..., an error that could be detected when the DNA strand is later sequenced. 1, fiche 3, Anglais, - molecular%20ticker%20tape

The terms "upstream" and "downstream" are used to describe the position of DNA sequences in relation to the direction of transcription by the RNA polymerase: thus, the promoter is upstream from the structural gene(s) whereas the terminator is downstream. 2, fiche 22, Anglais, - downstream
