Le poli des galets dépend à la fois de la nature pétrographique du galet et des phénomènes qu'il a subis. Les roches à grain fin, roches éruptives microgrenues ou microlitiques, roches sédimentaires siliceuses telles que lydiennes ou silex, se polissent bien.
