DEF A bridge designed for rapid construction from interchangeable latticed panels of high-tensile steel that are coupled with alloy steel pins set into ready-made holes to form girders and laid double or triple or superposed to suit the span and load. Source

CONT The narrowness of the 6.5 m-wide superstructure allowed the use of a steel Bailey bridge as the launching gantry. This truss bridge was relatively slender and extended across two spans. It served to transport materials to the work in progress and to support the travelling formwork in its rear span. Source

OBS After Sir Donald C. Bailey b 1901 Eng. engineer who designed it. Source

OBS Bailey bridge; BB: term and abbreviation officially approved by the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces. Source

Source
