DEF

The axis which runs from wing tip to wing tip through the centre of gravity.

CONT

The pitch axis is perpendicular to the aircraft centerline and lies in the plane of the wings. A pitch motion is an up or down movement of the nose of the aircraft... The pitching motion is being caused by the deflection of the elevator of this aircraft. The elevator is a hinged section at the rear of the horizontal stabilizer. There is usually an elevator on each side of the vertical stabilizer. The elevators work in pairs; when the right elevator goes up, the left elevator also goes up.

CONT

The aircraft can rotate around three axes: the fore-and-aft axis (or the roll axis); the span-wise (nose-up/nose-down) axis or the pitch axis; and the nose-left/nose-right, or yaw axis.

DEF

CONT

At the request of member utilities, EPRI is managing a multi-year collaborative applied research effort focused on developing improved plume rise and downwash sub-models for incorporation into regulatory air quality dispersion models.... A field measurements program was performed from February 10-March 5, 1994 to characterize plume rise and building-induced downwash at a representative combustion turbine facility, under a variety of meteorological conditions.... PRIME [Plume Rise Model Enhancements] explicitly calculates the local slope of the mean streamlines as a function of building shape and wind angle, and coupled with a numberical plume rise model, determines the change in plume centerline location with downwind distance.

Gross navigational error(GNE)-Pilots are expected to fly their aircraft along the centerline of their assigned route and to stay within the accuracy limits of their installed navigation systems.(For example, the accuracy tolerance limits for Loran C equipment used in instrument flight rules(IFR) oceanic navigation is 5. 8 NM). If an aircraft becomes off course, it is usually for one of the following reasons; a "loop"(or communications) error between the pilot and the controller, a pilot intentionally entering a waypoint which is not along the assigned route of flight(for example, a pilot deviation due to weather without prior ATC approval or without declaring an emergency), an unintentionally entered waypoint not along the assigned route, and a navigational equipment error or failure. Navigational errors that are greater than 20 NM are investigated by the various countries that provide ATC service.

In order to eliminate resurveying of portions of the road to relocate these stakes, offset stakes are placed beyond the limits of construction and are used to relocate the original stakes. Offset stakes are set on a line at right angles to the centerline of the facility. From these, the slope/stakes can easily be located. After relocating a slope stake, the centerline stake can be relocated by measuring toward the centerline of the road the horizontal distance indicated on the slope stake and placing the new centerline stake there; Placement and marking. An offset stake will contain all the info given on the original slope stake plus the horizontal distance from the original slope stake to the offset stake. This offset distance is marked on the front of the stake and is circled to indicate that it is an offset reference. culvert: Pipe or channel to carry water under a roadway or other obstruction. It is either a short bridge of less than 6 m (20 ft) in length, or a structure with enough fill over it so that little of its strength is needed to support the traffic load.

In drafting practice, there is often confusion between the use of the terms axis and centre line. The centre line is the actual centre of the feature.

CONT

Centerlines are used to show and locate the centers of circles and arcs, and are used to represent the center axis of a circular of symmetrical form. Centerlines are thin lines on a drawing.

Français

DEF

stake marking the line where a cut or fill meets the original grade.

Slope stakes are set on lines perpendicular to the centerline(one on each side), at the points where the cut and fill slopes intersect the natural ground surface. The sloping of the slope stakes outward allows the eqpt to work to the stake without removing it, indicates the direction of the centerline of the road, and enables the eqpt operators to read the stakes more easily. Slope stakes are placed at 30 M intervals on tangents and at 20 M intervals on horizontal or vertical curves. Wherever a sharp break in the original ground profile occurs, it should also be staked.

The slope stake indicates the lateral limits of cut or fill at a given cross section.
