Redundancies are words that unnecessarily repeat information. Because again indicates repetition, the phrase all over in the familiar expression all over again is redundant.

For concise writing, use again by itself.

  • Redundant: When the power outage shut down her computer, Sandra had to begin the report all over again.
  • Concise: When the power outage shut down her computer, Sandra had to begin the report again.
