Calgarian, Calgary, Cowtown, Stampede City

A native or resident of Calgary, Alberta, is called a Calgarian. Although the demonym Calgarian is encountered in newspapers and magazines, it is often replaced in more formal writing by native, resident or inhabitant of Calgary, or some similar phrase.

  • Tourists and Calgarians (or residents of Calgary) flock to the Stampede each July.

It should be noted that Calgary is commonly used as a modifier, while Calgarian is not.

  • Have you ever experienced a Calgary chinook?

Cowtown and Stampede City are popular nicknames for this city.

  • Contrary to the image suggested by Calgary’s nickname, Stampede City is very modern and prosperous.
