judicial, judicious

These adjectives sound similar but have different meanings.

Judicial refers to judges or courts of law.

  • The Canadian Judicial Council administers the Judges Act and deals with complaints about federally appointed judges.
  • Canadians expect their judicial system to act impartially.

Judicious means prudent or sound in judgment

  • Everyone has to make choices in life: with good information and careful thought, most of these will be judicious.
