These like–sounding words (homonyms) have different meanings.

A lea is a meadow.

  • The hikers emerged from the forest and found themselves on the edge of a sunny lea.

Lee describes or refers to an area that is sheltered from wind or storms.

  • The Scouts found shelter on the lee shore of the lake.
  • In the lee of the giant boulder, the hikers took refuge from the wind.
