lighted, lit

Both forms of the past participle, lighted and lit, are found in Canadian usage.

  • Antonio has lit (or lighted) the Canada Day fireworks in Yellowknife for the last ten years.

The participles lit and lighted are used as adjectives as well.

  • This is a well–lighted studio.
  • I was surprised to find a lighted candle in the empty room.
  • Smokers are best advised not to walk through crowds while holding a lit cigarette.
