uniform resource locator, URL

A URL (uniform resource locator) is the address for a page or site on the World Wide Web; URL is always written in upper case. The general preference is to pronounce the individual letters (a U-R-L) and not an URL.

  • Nelson could not remember the URL for the university’s website, so he used a search engine.

The plural is URLs.

  • Roseanne has bookmarked at least 50 URLs of websites concerning the English language.
