unconscious of

To indicate an absence of consciousness, the adjective unconscious is used by itself.

  • The cyclist was unconscious for 15 minutes after falling on his head.

When the intended meaning is a general lack of awareness, the preposition of normally follows unconscious.

  • Absorbed in her studies, Sheila was unconscious of the noises in the corridor.
