To write clearly and concisely, replace the wordy expressions bring to a close, bring to a conclusion, bring to an end and bring to completion with one of the following verbs: close, complete, conclude, end, finish, settle or wrap up.

  • Wordy: Bridget brought the seminar to a close (conclusion) with an anecdote.
  • Concise: Bridget closed the seminar with an anecdote.
  • Wordy: The employer brought the interview to an end.
  • Concise: The employer concluded (or wrapped up) the interview.
  • Wordy: Please bring this argument to an end.
  • Concise: Please end (or settle) this argument.
  • Wordy: The team should bring the project to completion by Friday.
  • Concise: The team should finish (or complete) the project by Friday.
